Hosco Japan Sound Offset Spacer (S.O.S.) for steelstring acoustic guitars
Sound Offset Spacer (S.O.S.) for steelstring acoustic guitars
S.O.S improves the intonation at each fret and easy installation to your instruments. Just insert the S.O.S next to the nut between the fingerboard and the strings. We developed S.O.S. to fit steel string, electric and nylon stringed classical guitars. Its design is based on the MTS theory (patent no. 4383272) and made in Japan.
MTS is an ultimate guitar tuning system based on the laws of physics. All fretted instruments have fatal problem. That is, when player pressed the strings at the fret, the string tension is up and tone will be a little bit sharp, though the frets are set on the correct position. Inventor, Mr. Minehara researched and derived one formula to calculate the corrected (offset) value from string material, guitar scale and string height.
S.O.S. improves the pitch from nut to 12th fret area. It works great for a wide range of string gauges and tensions. For open and dropped tunings the string tension is lower, therefore the pitch gap is getting bigger. S.O.S. will especially improve the pitch for down tuning. After setting S.O.S, each pitch will be improved already. So basically, there's less need to finetune pitch while using a capo.
- If you need to improve the high fret area (12th fret and above), you need to adjust string length by using the adjustable bridge saddles.
- The S.O.S. is made form bakelite, not bone. So, fitting an S.O.S. might have an effect on the perceived sound of the guitar.material used: bakelite.
